I drove about three hours to get a puppy for my girlfriend. He's a handful, but we love him. We feed him good food, bought him a ton of toys and treats. Got him his shots. He's in a big cozy kennel. We give him plenty of water. He's happy. He just does dumb things sometimes.
But this morning, when I discovered he had an accident in his kennel, I had to clean it out. To do this, I first had to get him out of it. If I let him roam the house, he'd attempt to fight one of the cats, (He has done it in the past We normally supervise him when he's out because of this). So, the only option was put him outside. Our back yard isn't secure. He can easily escape due to poor fencing on the builders part, as well as the fact that he can slip between bars on the patio into the side yard. So, I had to attach him by his leash to the fence.
The problem comes where it took some time to actually clean his kennel. He's a large breed dog, so he has large movements. By the time I finished, I went out to get him when some neighbors had him. Apparently, he got himself stuck at some weird angle or something. Now, he's a talkative dog, even when he's just standing unleashed on the ground, so when he was barking out there, these neighbors must have gotten some bad thoughts in their head because they started scolding me when I came out to get him. I explained that the yard isn't fit and that I didn't have many options. Besides, He had plenty of leash, he just tangled himself in it. But they threatened to call Animal Services on us.
We have other animals, and I'm worried that if Animal Services came, they'd take all of them. We love all our animals and take care of them to the best of our abilities. But this one situation has me and my girlfriend freaking out. So any advice or even calming words would help.
